BROOKVILLE, N.Y., Oct. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, Brian Kilmeade, host of FOX's One Nation and cohost of FOX & Friends, will lead Long Island University's (LIU) National Civics Day celebration on Tuesday, October 27. Joined by Tweed Roosevelt, great-grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt and Chairman of LIU's Roosevelt School, and Mimosa Jones Tunney, founder of The School House and American Emergent Curriculum, Kilmeade will moderate a discussion on American history, civic responsibility, and educating the next generation.

Long Island University is Celebrating 100 Years of Accelerating the Exceptional

The event will feature the launch of a new screen-free civics education platform at LIU's Roosevelt House, home to the Museum of Democracy and its extraordinary collection of presidential and political artifacts spanning American history from George Washington to the present day. The panel will be professionally recorded and made available for viewing following the in-person event.

"As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, Long Island University is helping lead a national effort to ensure future generations understand the history, principles, and responsibilities of American citizenship," said Dr. Kimberly R. Cline, President of Long Island University. "From establishing National Civics Day to advancing innovative civics education and preserving the history of the American presidency, LIU is bringing together education, history, and leadership to strengthen the future of our democracy."

National Civics Day: Connecting America's Past with Its Future

Established in 2021 through the efforts of Long Island University's Roosevelt School and the Society of Presidential Descendants, National Civics Day promotes civic knowledge, constitutional understanding, and responsible citizenship. The initiative subsequently received congressional support through House Resolution 756, recognizing October 27 as National Civics Day.

The date commemorates two defining milestones in American history: the birth of President Theodore Roosevelt on October 27, 1858, and the first publication of The Federalist Papers on October 27, 1787. Written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay, the essays helped explain the principles underlying the proposed U.S. Constitution.

Previous LIU National Civics Day celebrations have featured former First Ladies Laura Bush and Jill Biden. This year's observance takes on special significance as the nation commemorates its 250th anniversary and reflects on the enduring importance of civic education.

A New Approach to Teaching Civics

A centerpiece of this year's celebration will be the launch of a new screen-free civics education platform developed by The School House, founded by Mimosa Jones Tunney.

The initiative seeks to engage young learners with American history, constitutional principles, and the responsibilities of citizenship through an approach that emphasizes learning beyond traditional screen-based instruction.

The launch complements LIU's partnership with The School House and American Emergent Curriculum to strengthen civics education nationwide. Supported by an approximately $2.3 million, three-year U.S. Department of Education American History and Civics award, the partnership's initiative brings together university scholarship, educator professional development, and innovative instructional resources. The initiative aims to serve educators from around the nation through six seminar cohorts over three years, extending its impact to classrooms and communities across the country.

Brian Kilmeade: Bringing America's Founding Stories to Life

Kilmeade will host the National Civics Day panel and sign copies of his newest book, Uniting the States: Six Crucial Moments That Forged the American Miracle, released October 13, 2026.

The book examines pivotal moments in America's early history and the leaders whose decisions helped define the emerging nation, including George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Daniel Shays, and John Quincy Adams.

The book's exploration of America's founding provides a timely complement to the National Civics Day discussion about preserving historical knowledge and inspiring civic participation among future generations.
