Fifth-generation farmer, rancher and auctioneer brings decades of agricultural, cattle and land brokerage experience to clients across the central and western United States.
DENVER, Oct. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Mason & Morse Ranch Company is pleased to welcome Rick Kusel, an experienced farm and ranch real estate broker, auctioneer, cattleman and agricultural consultant, to the company's team of specialized land professionals.

A good land broker should be able to walk a property with an owner and understand why certain improvements were made, how the operation functions and where the real value is. Every property is different, and every owner has different objectives.
Based in Lemoyne, Nebraska, Rick brings decades of firsthand experience in agriculture, livestock production, farm and ranch ownership, agricultural business management, auctions and rural real estate.
For Rick, understanding land began long before he entered the brokerage business.
A fifth-generation farmer and rancher, he grew up on his family's grain and livestock operation in western Iowa. He later purchased the family farm from his grandparents, raising corn, soybeans, small grains and alfalfa while operating a 1,500-head cattle feedlot, a farrow-to-finish hog operation, an 80-head cow herd and a small trucking business. That background gives Rick a perspective that extends well beyond acreage, improvements and comparable sales.
He understands the practical factors that influence how a farm or ranch operates and what contributes to its value, including water, forage, soils, carrying capacity, livestock infrastructure, access, improvements, equipment needs, wildlife and long-term stewardship.
"Farm, ranch and recreational land all carry a story, a purpose and a responsibility. My experience as a farmer, rancher, cattleman, outdoorsman, auctioneer, consultant and broker helps me serve clients with practical knowledge and an honest perspective. That is what Live It to Know It® means to me."
Rick's professional career has remained closely connected to agriculture.
After working in the Wyoming oilfields, he returned to Iowa and farming before relocating to Akron, Colorado, in 1994. There, he entered the John Deere business and advanced from sales to general manager of a successful dealership.
He earned his Colorado real estate license in 2001 and soon after transitioned into farm and ranch real estate and consulting. Rick graduated from the Western College of Auctioneering in Billings, Montana in 2007 and has worked as an auctioneer, ringman and auction professional on numerous land and agricultural sales.
Today, he continues to feed cattle, operate his own cow herd and consult with farm and ranch operations while representing buyers and sellers of working farms, cattle ranches, recreational properties, hunting land and other rural real estate. "Rick understands land from the owner's and operator's side of the fence," said Bart Miller, ALC, Managing Partner and Broker of Mason & Morse Ranch Company.
"Rick is a seasoned land broker, but what really distinguishes him is the depth of experience behind that. He has raised crops, fed cattle, operated equipment, managed agricultural businesses and represented buyers and sellers in land transactions. He also brings an extensive network built over decades in agriculture and rural real estate. When a client is making an important decision about a farm or ranch, that combination of firsthand knowledge, relationships and brokerage experience matters. It fits naturally with our Live It to Know It® philosophy."
Rick is licensed in Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming and Oklahoma, allowing him to serve landowners and buyers across an important agricultural region spanning the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain West.
His background is particularly well suited to properties where agricultural productivity, operational considerations and land value are closely connected, including cattle ranches, working farms, farmland, recreational properties, hunting land and investment agricultural properties.
Experience That Helps Clients Understand the Land
Rural real estate often requires a different level of understanding than conventional property brokerage. A working ranch may need to be evaluated for grazing capacity, water distribution, fencing, livestock handling facilities and seasonal operating considerations. A farm may require an understanding of soils, production history, irrigation, improvements and agricultural economics. Recreational properties may involve wildlife habitat, water, access and the relationship between productive and recreational uses.
For many owners, these properties also represent something more personal: generations of work, family history and significant equity built in the land. Understanding those factors—and understanding what matters most to the owner—is an important part of representing a farm or ranch well.
Rick's involvement in agriculture and rural communities has also been longstanding. He served for 20 years as a volunteer firefighter and held leadership roles with the Iowa Cattlemen's Association at both the local and state levels. In 1990, he was recognized as one of Iowa's Outstanding Young Cattlemen.
He is also an avid outdoorsman who has spent much of his life hunting, fishing and trapping, giving him additional perspective on wildlife habitat, recreational land and the stewardship responsibilities associated with rural property ownership.
Rick's addition further strengthens Mason & Morse Ranch Company's ability to serve landowners and buyers across Nebraska and the central United States while connecting his regional knowledge, agricultural experience and established relationships with the company's broader national marketing and brokerage platform.
