NEW YORK, Sept. 02, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Work Heights announced that it is marking its 12th anniversary in 2026, reaching the milestone with a seven-location coworking network across Brooklyn. Founded in Crown Heights in 2014 by Sam Strauss-Malcolm, the independently owned company has expanded neighborhood by neighborhood without outside investment and now provides members with 24/7 access to all seven locations through a single membership.
Work Heights currently operates locations in Williamsburg, Boerum Hill, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Prospect Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, and Crown Heights. The company says the anniversary reflects more than a decade of measured growth focused on building a sustainable local network rather than pursuing rapid national expansion.

The anniversary comes as Brooklyn’s coworking sector continues to expand. The borough had approximately 90 coworking locations in early 2026, according to CoworkingCafe data, representing 4.4 percent of its total leasable office inventory.
Work Heights Reaches 12 Years of Neighborhood-Based Growth
Work Heights opened its first location in Crown Heights in 2014 in a building that had previously housed a junkyard and auto parts store.
Since then, the company has expanded while maintaining its focus on freelancers, remote workers, founders, entrepreneurs, and small teams. Rather than relying on outside investment to accelerate growth, Work Heights has added locations incrementally across Brooklyn.
Its locations include quiet work areas, call booths, and conference rooms, while six of the seven spaces feature outdoor backyards. Podcast booths are available at the Williamsburg, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and Crown Heights locations. All seven locations are dog-friendly and feature Herman Miller furniture.
A central part of the company’s network is the ability for members to use multiple neighborhood locations under one membership. Someone based near Crown Heights, for example, can work from Williamsburg or Boerum Hill when meetings or daily schedules take them elsewhere in the borough.
For Strauss-Malcolm, that network has developed organically over the company’s 12-year history rather than through a predetermined expansion target.

Anniversary Comes During a Changing Coworking Market
Work Heights’ 12th anniversary arrives after a period of substantial change within the coworking industry.
WeWork, once valued at approximately $47 billion, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2023 after years of rapid, capital-intensive expansion. The company emerged from bankruptcy in June 2024 with a substantially reduced portfolio.
At the same time, demand for flexible workspace has continued. Brooklyn’s coworking inventory increased approximately 7 percent year over year, while the national coworking market added more than 1,000 locations during 2025, according to Yardi Matrix.
New and expanding operators have also continued to invest in Brooklyn. Mindspace expanded its Williamsburg presence, while Jay Suites entered the borough in late 2025.
Against that backdrop, Work Heights is entering its 13th year with the same independently financed model it has followed since opening its first location.
The company’s member community has included individuals and teams from organizations such as Runway, Nous Research, AI Now, and AirPals.
As it marks the 12-year milestone, Work Heights says its focus remains on strengthening its Brooklyn network and serving freelancers, entrepreneurs, remote workers, and smaller organizations rather than pursuing expansion for its own sake.
